I got in touch with Claire at PuraVida Creative initially to ask her to review my branding. I had a suspicion I needed a new logo that was a bit more reflective of Flying Canadian Photography but I was quite attached to the one that the business had grown up with so I was hoping Claire would tell me it was all fine and to carry on. Turns out Claire agreed with my suspicions…
Working on the basis that I wanted to project warmth, friendliness and my Canadian roots in my brand, we came up with a camera carrying Moose – I love him. Somehow Claire carefully and sensitively steered me towards using warmer red and oranges in the colours of the logo – considering I wanted to stick with just using black and white and was reluctant to add any colours at all it still surprises me that I got there. If you look into the psychology of colour, orange represents happiness and creativity and calls in feelings of warmth so this was totally the right thing to do. I also picked a font that was a little more stylised moving away from something very functional.
Once we finished the logo, I asked Claire if she would help me to integrate it onto my website. She came up with some great backgrounds that utilised the colours and imagery to start with… we then built things up for there, adjusting fonts, elements, and finishing off with some updated images incorporating some cool Canadian graphics on my about and contact pages.
Finishing working with PuraVida Creative feels a bit like when you finish reading a good book – I’m a little disappointed as I’m going to miss my discussions with Claire and the way we were able to bounce ideas off each other. I always got really excited to open the most recent email attachment to see what Claire had come up with. Thankfully, though, branding is a continuum needing regular reviews and updates so I will be able to have the pleasure of working again with Claire soon.
Here is the final branding document from Claire which pulls it all together. I’m so pleased with how it has come together and it really is like having my whole self projected into the big wide world…
