Eclectic wedding in the cool surroundings of the Sefton Park Palm House, South Liverpool
Sefton Park Palm House is a beautiful grade two listed Victorian Glasshouse in the middle of the 235 acre’s of Sefton Park in Liverpool. It is a popular wedding venue – apparently they have 60 weddings booked already in 2020 – and I can understand why. It’s a bit of a quirky place with great light and space and there is always something interesting in flower too. I actually photographed my very first wedding there – that was a while ago now!
The forecast for Ellen and Peter’s October wedding was a little wet but they both had a wonderfully nonchalant attitude about the rain. And why not – rain when you get married is actually good luck as the theory is that a knot that becomes wet is extremely hard to untie – so if you “tie the knot” on a rainy day, your marriage is very hard to “untie”! They also had chosen a venue that would be nice whatever the weather… and a few spare umbrellas didn’t hurt either.
Peter’s groomsmen looked after him from when they arrived at the Palm House until the ceremony – making sure his button hole was perfect, his tweed suit was neat as a pin and doing their best to keep his nerves at bay. Ellen arrived right on time with her 5 bridesmaids and her Mum. The bridesmaids had deep green dresses – all the same colour but varying in style and chosen to suit each of them. Nice. And what a great dress Ellen had too – it just above the knee like mine was! The ceremony was lovely, simple and emotional; the ring bearer and flower girl were so cute when they were undertaking their duties.
There were some drinks, canapes and a jazz band afterwards and we had a little window in the weather where it wasn’t quite as wet to get outside to throw some confetti and have a wander amongst the orange leaves of Sefton Park.
Ellen and Peter had eclectically named the tables after the likes of RuPaul, Dolly Parton, Star Wars, Beyonce, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Lord of the Rings and their pet cat! They had chosen wood fired pizzas cooked on site for an informal, chilled out meal for the guests. Later in the evening, the DJ played a great selection of tunes right up my street – I didn’t want to leave!
Thank-you to Ellen & Peter for having me photograph their relaxed wedding and making me feel a part of their family and friends bubble for a few hours – here are some of my favourite pictures from their wedding. Hope you enjoy looking at them as much as I did taking them!
