We had a lot of fun camping in Abersoch this past weekend… We went to the campsite where our friends’ Nicola and Nigel have kept their caravan all year round for more than 20 years. Cathy and Nick also joined in the fun.
On Friday morning we drove out to Wales stopping in Pwllheli and Aberdaron for a little wander and a shop. We had a little visit to the lovely bakery called the Becws Islyn in both places. In Pwllheli Paul bought some pies and pasties and I got something sweet – a cookie dough caramel square which was a bit of a sugar overload even for me! On the second stop in Aberdaron we had some sandwiches specially made up to take down to the beach where we sat and had our lunch while listening to the waves and watching the birds and a kite in the wind.
When we got to the campsite at Tan y Bryn farm early in the afternoon, Nicola and Nigel were just heading out for a walk to the beach with their two dogs Maple and Reggie. We decided to join them and really enjoyed the walk on the beach in the sun – shoes were off as we paddled in the sea and the humans and canines were all very happy with the situation. Back at the campsite we had a BBQ and then Cathy and Nick joined us for a catch up – it was nice being able to sit outside until after the sun went down. I was wrapped up in a blanket at the end of the night but was very comfortable.
On Saturday Paul and I headed into Abersoch and then walked around the coastal path to the beach at Hell’s mouth and back to the campsite. That was about 13 miles all together. There were some nice views from the path – a couple of little islands and a lighthouse off the coast as well as Abersoch itself and then further north across the Llyn Peninsula and Bardsey Island. We arrived at the long beach called Hell’s mouth in time for lunch and sat there admiring how effortless the surfers made their balancing look! On the way back to the campsite, we found a pub for cold drink. Saturday night it was BBQ time again and some hilarity as we played the card game called Cards against Humanity. Paul bought it for me a while ago but we hadn’t played it yet… it seems that was a missed opportunity as it’s been a while since I laughed that hard!
On Sunday we ended up abandoning our plans to walk and just heading home – getting home before the thunderstorms started. It seems we both aren’t accustomed to late nights as we both had a Sunday afternoon nap! Light weights or what?
Here are a few pictures from our camping weekend in Abersoch.
