We had a few days in St. Bees at the beginning of March which was a bit of a blast from the past.  Our home was a cottage on a new housing estate right by the beach called Seacote Gardens.   It was a great cottage – it was really nicely furnished, had great parking, an enclosed garden, lots of space, was nice and warm and only a couple of minutes walk to the beach.

The days are getting longer now so it was nice to have a little walk to the beach at the end of each day to see what the tide was doing and to see if we could find some sticks to throw in the sea for Olaf to chase.  Disappointedly, our trip to Wasdale to have lunch at Wasdale Head Inn and to visit St. Olaf’s church to introduce Olaf to the church that is his namesake was curtailed as the road was closed into the valley.  But we still managed a few other extracurricular activities such as:

• A little wander by the lake and around the shops in Keswick and lunch in the Bank Tavern pub
• Lunch in Gosforth at Yam Frae Yam Cafe
• A walk on the shore of Ennerdale Water
• A trip to the beach at Drigg
• A tasty Indian takeaway from Teza Spice in Egremont

Some things have changed since I last stayed in St. Bees (the house were we stayed in by the beach didn’t used to be there and the post office has moved to the other side of the street) and some have stayed the same (same pubs, same beachside cafe, same beautiful headland, same busy one way road through the village); I’m pleased we had the chance to reacquaint ourselves with the pretty coastal village.
