It turns out 7 days in Bamburgh in a wonderful cottage (The Art House) was not enough!  We were there to celebrate our 14th wedding anniversary – and the weather played nice, we had some nice walks, food and most importantly time together.

Here are some of the things we got up to while we were there:

  • Visiting Lindisfarne when the tide was out – including a visit to the priory and a walk around the castle.  We stopped for lunch at The Barn at Beal on the way back across.  Cullen skink (smoked haddock soup) was my nod to the area…
  • Visiting Lindisfarne when the tide was coming in – including the amazing unspoilt beach on the North Shore of the island and the house of TV detective’s Vera called the “Snook”.  Disappointingly, it was a very “low” high tide which meant it didn’t actually reach or cover the Causeway so we didn’t get cut off as we’d hoped – but we did spot a few deer to compensate!
  • Watching the sunrise on the beach at Bamburgh.
  • Walking on the beach at Beadnell Bay and having lunch (Fish Finger Sandwich for me) at a cafe by the beach called The Landing.
  • Having lunch at a restaurant called the Potted Lobster only a couple of doors down from our cottage – Paul had Fish and Chips and I tried a Dressed Crab Salad.
  • Exploring Warkworth and Bamburgh Castles.
  • Doing a little circular walk in land from Bamburgh including a stop at St. Cuthbert’s cave.
  • Walking from Craster to Dunstanbrugh Castle on a very windy day with Olaf to meet Paul who had walked there from Bamburgh.  It was so windy though that the castle was closed for safety reasons!
  • Trying (and very much enjoying) a chorizo and monkfish wrap from the seafood trailer in Bamburgh called The Creel and Reel.

And here are some of the pictures I took… until my camera gave up when Olaf’s water bottle leaked on it!  Thankfully that was on the day before we left…!

It had been almost 11 years since our previous visit to Northumberland but we very much hope it won’t be so long until our next trip there!
