Our first of two camping trips planned for July was to Abersoch in North Wales. Our friends Nicola and Nigel have a static caravan there so we found a site nearby – Trem y Mor Campsite – and booked for a long weekend.
We headed across on Thursday with a stop at two nice farm shops:
- Swans farm shop – which had a lovely selection of food and was happy for Olaf to go in and have a sniff. Shame it wasn’t open on Sunday to stop in on the way back and stock up at home!
- Abersoch farm shop – although it had a smaller selection in the shop compared to our first stop, the cafe was nice with views across the bay and it was dog friendly too! Oh yes – and there was ice cream to be had!
On Friday we took a taxi from our campsite to Aberdaron and walked back to Abersoch via the coastal path. We walked on the very long, quiet and beautiful beach at Hells Mouth towards the end of the walk which Olaf loved. We met Nicola and Nigel and their daughter Emma went to a nearby pub, the Sun Inn, for dinner when they arrived Friday evening. We were going to walk there but it was very wet and windy that evening so we were very grateful for the lift. Thank you Nigel!
On Saturday we met Nicola and Nigel and their two dogs Maple and Reggie and walked to Llanbedrog from Abersoch and back again. When we got to Abersoch we also picked up Mick and Dawn who are friends of Nicola and Nigel and their dog too. Some of the paths en route were very overgrown but to Olaf’s delight there were a couple of beaches along the route too and he had some off lead time with the other dogs. We stopped for lunch at the very nice gallery cafe in Llanbedrog. Thankfully we got a table outside that was big enough for us all and the 4 dogs!
When we got back to Abersoch we stopped in the beer garden of the Vaynol pub for a drink – and for me the biggest ice cream cone ever – two scoops which was actually more like 6! I still had room for BBQ food at Nigel and Nicola’s caravan when we got back though. It was a lovely day.
On Sunday we got up and headed for home – it was a bit showery and we were pleased to miss the traffic and the weather. We really enjoyed the weekend and would love to get back to Abersoch in the van this year but it might be a bit of a struggle finding a weekend that suits us all unfortunately!
Here are some of the pictures from the weekend:
